Home Electrical Safety Inspections

Find the hot spot before it finds you.

An electrical safety inspection is a licensed electrician's check of your panel, grounding, wiring, GFCI/AFCI protection, outlets, smoke detectors and connections, often including a thermal scan of the panel to find overheating. It's recommended every few years, after buying a home, and for homes built before 1990.

Electrical problems are a leading cause of home fires, and most give no warning you'd notice day to day. A professional inspection with thermal imaging finds loose, overheating connections and outdated protection before they become emergencies.

Our Safety Plan members get this inspection every year as part of their plan.

Signs you need safety inspections

  • Your home is more than 25–30 years old
  • You just bought the home or are about to sell
  • You've never had the panel opened and checked
  • Insurance asked for an electrical inspection
  • You have aluminum branch wiring (common in some 1960s–70s homes)

What's included

  • Panel inspection with thermal imaging
  • Grounding and bonding check
  • GFCI / AFCI and smoke / CO detector testing
  • Sample outlet and switch testing for polarity and ground
  • Written report with prioritized, priced recommendations

What affects the price

Most safety inspections projects in Central Texas land between $150–$300. Where yours falls depends on:

  • Home size
  • Number of panels and outbuildings

Safety Inspections FAQ

How often should a home's electrical system be inspected?

Every 3–5 years for most homes, every year for homes over 40 years old or with known issues, and whenever you buy a home or finish major renovations.

What is a thermal scan of an electrical panel?

An infrared camera shows temperature differences across breakers and connections. Hot spots reveal loose or overloaded connections long before they fail, without disrupting your power.
