Electrical Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

We find the fault. Then we kill it.

Electrical troubleshooting is the systematic testing of circuits, devices and connections to find the cause of tripping breakers, dead outlets, flickering or partial power loss. A licensed electrician uses meters, tracers and thermal imaging to locate the fault, then gives you flat-rate repair options before fixing it.

Intermittent electrical problems are frustrating and can be dangerous. A loose neutral, a failing breaker or a nicked wire inside a wall won't fix itself, and swapping random parts gets expensive.

Our electricians test methodically, circuit by circuit, using professional meters, circuit tracers and thermal cameras, so we find the actual cause the first time.

Signs you need troubleshooting

  • A breaker trips over and over, or immediately on reset
  • GFCI outlets won't reset
  • Part of the house lost power but the breaker looks fine
  • Lights get brighter or dimmer on their own
  • Shocks or tingles from appliances, faucets or fixtures

What's included

  • Circuit-by-circuit testing and load measurement
  • Thermal imaging of the panel and suspect connections
  • Clear explanation of the cause in plain English
  • Flat-rate repair options, Good / Better / Best
  • Safety check of related circuits

What affects the price

Most troubleshooting projects in Central Texas land between $150–$800. Where yours falls depends on:

  • How intermittent the problem is
  • Access to the circuit
  • What the repair turns out to be

We price every job up front with Good / Better / Best options, so you choose the scope and budget before any work begins. See our full electrical pricing guide.

Troubleshooting FAQ

Why does my breaker keep tripping?

The three most common causes are an overloaded circuit (too much running at once), a short circuit (hot touching neutral or ground), and a ground fault or arc fault detected by an AFCI/GFCI breaker. A worn-out breaker can also trip early. Repeated tripping is a warning; don't keep resetting it.

Why is half my house without power?

In a 240V home, losing half the house often means one 'leg' of your service is down: a utility issue, a failed main breaker or a loose service connection. Check with your utility first; if neighbors have power, call an electrician.

Can you find a problem that only happens sometimes?

Yes. Intermittent faults are our specialty. Load testing, thermal imaging and inspecting connections under load let us find problems that don't show up with a simple outlet tester.
